Philippines IT-BPO Services Industry Expands to 13.8%

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), the central bank of the Philippines, in its Survey of Information Technology-Business Process Outsourcing (IT-BPO) Services shows the industry’s robust rate expansion to 13.8% in 2013. The IT-BPO services sector’s total revenue has reached $15.3 billion from $13.5 billion in 2012. Its subsectors - contact centers, animation, software development, transcription, and other BPOs - posted positive growth rate in 2013. The subsector contact centers is the top revenue earner, contributing $8.4 billion in the industry during the year.

Employment and Equity Investment Rate

According to BSP, “The local IT-BPO industry’s total employment reached 851,782 in 2013, maintaining a double-digit growth rate of 10.6 percent.” This result highlights the industry’s continuous success in employing fresh graduates and skilled professionals in many Philippine call centers, not just in Metro Manila but also in Davao, Cebu and other growing cities in the country.

Philippine contact centers retain its place as the top industry employer with a 62.3% share. A growing list of call center in the Philippines continuously hire and provide retention programs to contact center, animation and other BPO industry experts. The survey results show that the industry has compensated a total of $7.9 billion in 2013, which is 16.2% higher than $6.8 billion in 2012. The annual average compensation per year in the IT-BPO sector went up to $9,297 or 394,623php from $8,849 or 373,662php in 2012.

The survey also shows the double-digit growth rate of equity capital investment in the industry at 14.2% in 2013, which gives a deciding factor to more investors thinking of investing in a call center company in the Philippines. This BSP data survey were gathered from 699 companies in the Philippines, which are registered with agencies of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
